Homes England has agreed a collaboration deal with Keepmoat and Capital&Centric to accelerate the next stage of Northstowe, featuring 3,000 homes.
The agreement, supported by new housing minister Matthew Pennycook, will enable the delivery of the homes, half of which will be affordable to allow local people access to rented as well as open market homes. The phase will also include a new town centre, providing up to 50,000 square metres of commercial floorspace including shops, workspace and community facilities.
Northstowe is a new town under development in Cambridge in the former RAF Oakington airbase, which will comprise up to 10,000 homes. Around 1,400 homes are currently occupied following the completion of the first phase of the development, led by L&Q.
Homes England is master developer for the last two phases of the 30-year project, which now have outline planning permission in place. It is investing in the “essential infrastructure” to develop the site, including roads, public transport routes, cycleways, green spaces and schools.
The agency’s collaboration with Keepmoat and Capital&Centric, would, the organisations said, generate a “range” of benefits for the local community, including training for school and college leavers, apprenticeships and employment opportunities and support …
