New town wins approval

England's first proposed new town since Milton Keynes has won masterplan approval.<br> <br> South Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council accepted the Development Framework Document (DFD) for Northstowe which provides an endorsed masterplan for the entire town, allowing planning applications to be submitted. The news follows the government's announcement that the A14 – an important road link for Northstowe – will be upgraded. <br> <br> HCA is working with Gallagher Estates to deliver Northstowe which will feature up to 10,000 new homes, schools, employment areas and community services. The town will be built on the former RAF Oakington Barracks site and surrounding land in Cambridgeshire.<br> <br> A decision on the phase one application is expected in the autumn.
