New rules set for village greens

The regulations surrounding registrations of town and village greens could change under proposals in the Growth and Infrastructure Bill which is currently before parliament.<br> <br> The new measures include:<br> <br> The introduction of certain "trigger events" which will prevent applications to register. These will include first publication of a planning application or the identification of land for potential development in a development or neighbourhood plan. A landowner will be able to "ring fence" property by depositing a statement with the commons registration authority Local authorities will be able to sift applications The introduction of an application fee for registration <br> Robin Grove, a partner at legal firm Speechly Bircham, said: "Developers and their advisers will see this as a welcome re-balancing of the town and village green regime, which has developed over recent years in a way that has meant it has become a barrier to legitimate development plans"
