New housing and planning minister

<p>Gavin Barwell has been appointed as the new minister for housing, planning and London.</p> <p>He replaces Brandon Lewis who has moved to the position of minister of state for policing and the fire service.</p> <p>The MP for Croydon Central has previously been a senior government Whip and held PPS roles in the DCLG and under Michael Gove when he was education secretary.</p> <p>The new minister took to Twitter saying he was: "Looking forward to working with councils, housing associations, developers and investors to ensure we build the homes people need and deserve.</p> <p>He also embraced the new aspect to the role – London – when he added: "And to working with the Mayor of London to ensure the continued success of our wonderful diverse capital - and that all Londoners share in it."</p> <p>He will join the team at DCLG under new communities secretary Sajid Javid.</p>
