New homes completions hit "all time low"

<p>Government figures published today reveal that 102,570 houses were completed in England in 2010, 13% down on 2009. </p> <p>The Home Builders Federation said this figure was an "all time low" and called for "real action now to prevent the crisis deepening".</p> <p>Starts in 2010 reached 103,140 up 32% on 2009.</p> <p>The figures are published on the same day as details of the New Homes Bonus were released. The bonus is intended to incentivise local authorities to build more homes.</p> <p>"The problem is that we have a planning system in the midst of radical change, expensive and unnecessary red tape and a shortage of mortgage availability," said HBF chairman Stewart Baseley . "If we are going to weather this perfect storm we need early action to resolve and simplify planning, reduce regulation and encourage lenders to lend again."</p>
