Net housing supply rises 10% - DLUHC

<p><span>Annual net housing supply in England rose 10% in the year to March 2022 against the previous year, according to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ latest housing supply statistics.</span></p> <p><span>In the year to March 2022, net housing supply rose to 232,820. Of the total, 210,070 were new build homes, a 10% increase year on year, but 4% below their 2019-20 pre-pandemic peak.</span></p> <p><span>But the new build figure was 87% above the 2012-13 low of the prolonged economic downturn and accounted for 90% of the net change.</span></p> <p><span>New build completions were highest in the South East at 37,060 and London at 31,620. They were lowest in the North East - 8,840 – and Yorkshire and the Humber - 16,860.</span></p> <p><span>The rest of the net supply resulted from 22,770 gains from change of use between non-domestic and residential, 4,870 from conversions between houses and flats and 780 other gains, for example, caravans and house boats. These were offset by 5,680 demolitions.</span></p> <p><span>DLUHC’s data for 2021/22 showed that 10,303 of the homes were created through permitted development rights. These included 8,359 office to residential homes, 591 agricultural to residential properties and 138 storage to residential homes.</span></p> <p><span>Net additions from conversions …
