MHCLG launches £4m Community Housing Fund

<p><span>The government has reintroduced the Community Housing Fund, offering £4 million to communities to help them build homes in their neighbourhoods.</span></p><p><span>The fund, which was originally announced in the 2016 Budget and ran until 2020, will help community-led housing groups pay for costs associated with developing homes to meet the needs of their communities. This could include financing planning applications, searches, administration costs or legal services.</span></p><p><span>Community-led housing sees community-based groups take responsibility for local housebuilding, with these affordable homes remaining in the control of communities through land trusts or housing co-operatives. </span></p><p><span>The Community Housing Fund Revenue Programme 2021/22 will support those communities whose housing plans are in the advanced stages of pre-development, explained the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), which is funding the programme.</span></p><p><span>The Community Led Homes Partnership (CLH), a coalition of four community-led housing organisations, will manage the grant programme, administering the funds. Applications will be open until all funds are allocated or until December 31, “whichever occurs first”, MHCLG said. </span></p><p><span>This reintroduction of the Community Housing Fund follows the publication of the Bacon Review, which recommended that “reigniting” the fund would create more opportunities for communities to build. </span></p><p><span>According to MHCLG, Richard Bacon MP’s review into …
