McStone’s Wimborne urban retirement village wins approval

<p><span>McCarthy Stone has won approval for a flagship, “fully integrated” urban retirement village in Wimborne, Dorset.</span></p> <p><span>Dorset County Council has approved the retirement housebuilder’s £41 million scheme of sympathetically-designed 67 one-and two-bedroom Extra Care apartments, 32 Extra Care bungalows and two-storey chalets in a range of tenures, with nine open market houses also on offer.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>These, McStone said, would be delivered in “spacious and beautifully landscaped surroundings,” creating a supportive and attractive retirement community.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>The firm also said the development would focus on residents’ needs, with features including a wellbeing hub, circular fitness route, village green and dining areas. These will be underpinned by 24-hour flexible care and onsite support, managed by McStone. A central accessible hub will allow access for all residents whether in the main building or surrounding bungalows.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>McStone said its proposed scheme would “significantly” improve housing choice for older people in the area who wished to keep their independence, creating an environment of tailored care “as well as a warm, fun, and caring community of friendly neighbours to encourage a happier and healthier later life”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>According to Dorset County Council, the number of older people in the area is predicted to rise 60% by 2033.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>McStone’s …
