McStone and Anchor’s Sutton Coldfield scheme approved

<br/><p>McCarthy Stone and Anchor have received permission to build another of their “affordable for all” schemes as part of their partnership to deliver multi-tenure retirement homes, with a 137-home scheme to go ahead in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham.</p><p>Birmingham City Council has approved the organisations’ plans to redevelop the former Royal Works site off Coleshill Street, with the apartments designed to meet the varied needs of the area’s growing and ageing population. McStone said the scheme would offer different tenure options across the affordability spectrum; 85 of the properties will be for either social rent or shared ownership. </p><p>The scheme, with a gross development value (GDV) of around £40 million, will also offer tailored care for residents to suit personal circumstances. It will comprise two buildings, designed to form “one cohesive retirement community” with shared facilities and landscaped gardens that all residents can access.</p><p>Both buildings will be one storey less than originally planned to reduce “any perceived visual impact”. This follows McStone and Anchor working with Birmingham City Council and statutory consultees on a final design deemed compatible with the site and the local community. </p><p>The retirement housing partners submitted their application for the scheme in February.</p><p>The Sutton Coldfield development is the …
