Manchester’s chips to go on sale

145 residential homes designed by Will Alsop will go on sale on May 7. They form a building named Chips and are the first residential homes to be designed by Alsop in Britain. The development is part of a 29 acre site in east Manchester known as New Islington. Some of the homes will be earmarked for first-time buyers and key workers. Commenting on the Chips design Alsop said: “It is an architectural device to break down the scale of a nine storey building. We wanted humour and attractiveness and the name is an interesting by product. They didn’t ask me to design a plate of chips.”
