Major step ahead for new town

Plans for a major new town have taken a significant step, with a planning application being submitted for the first phase of 1,500 new homes and related facilities. <br> <br> Northstowe is the proposed new town on the former RAF Oakington Barracks site and surrounding land north west of Cambridge. If plans go ahead, over the next 20 years it will provide up to 10,000 new homes, schools, employment areas, a town centre and other community services. <br> <br> The land for phase one is under Gallagher Estates’ control. Executive director Alan Joyner said: “Northstowe will be built to high sustainability standards and will make an important contribution to the provision of market and affordable housing and economic growth in South Cambridgeshire.”<br> <br>
