Lynn Wilson–a tribute

Lynn Wilson, who died in a car accident on July 9, was president of the House Builders Federation in 1981. During the 1980s he was a crucial member of an outstanding Officers’ team that led HBF from being, legally, no more than a committee of the NFBTE, to a leading trade body with its own strong agenda, aspiring to complete legal and financial independence. At that time Lynn was at the heart of most industry initiatives, including the formation of the New Homes Marketing Board, and was active in Consortium Developments as a member of the Volume Builders Group. On the death of his father in 1970 he became md of Wilson Connolly (Wilcon) at the age of 26. <br><br>Few people of his age would have had the judgement to recruit the larger-than-life Mike Robinson as his group md. Together they made Wilcon the industry success story of the 1980s. Lynn’s attention turned from housing to cricket, rugby and horseracing after the disposal of Wilcon to Taylor Woodrow. He also established the Wilson Foundation in the 1970s to help local disadvantaged young people.
