Lovell announces 62% reduction in CO₂e

<p>Lovell has announced it has achieved a 62% reduction in carbon dioxide equivalent emissions over the past decade.</p> <p>According to audited results from the Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme (CEMARS), Lovell, provider of partnership and open market housing, cut its annual output by almost 6,000 tonnes in 2020 against 2010.</p> <p>This “remarkable” reduction reflected the company’s implementation of various strategies, Lovell said. These include improving the energy efficiency of its offices, reducing waste, increasing recycling and taking up “responsible” construction methods.</p> <p>Lovell said that throughout the business it had also reduced its reliance on fossil fuels, choosing “greener alternatives”. It has added more electric and fuel-efficient cars to its company car scheme.</p> <p>The business has recently announced further measures to “significantly reduce” its future carbon dioxide equivalent emissions (CO₂e). It is progressing towards switching to HVO (hydrotreated vegetable oil) fuel for all generators and telehandlers on its sites. </p> <p>This, Lovell said, would produce a CO₂e of up to 90% against traditional diesel. </p> <p>CO₂e is a metric measure which compares the emissions from various greenhouse gases based on their global warming potential (GWP), by converting amounts of other gases to the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide with the …
