L&G to “reduce activity” at modular homes factory

<p>Legal &amp; General is to stop new production at its modular housing factory in Selby, Yorkshire, cutting most jobs at the unit while it considers the division’s future.</p> <p><span>The insurance giant explained that a “number of factors,” including planning delays and the impact of Covid, had prevented it from securing the scale of pipeline needed “to make the current model work”, with the arm unable to support the sizeable running costs of the Selby factory.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>L&amp;G is now entering into consultation with all employees of the division, Legal &amp; General Modular Homes. It intends to make the majority of staff redundant. “The business will be doing all that it can to support employees during this difficult time and will be actively exploring opportunities for redeployment,” its statement read.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>L&amp;G will reduce business activity at the factory and is now “reviewing and assessing potential strategic options” for the division.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>L&amp;G Modular Homes was launched in 2016, with plans to deliver up to 3,500 homes a year from its 550,000 sq ft factory.
