Launch FHS consultation now – Climate Change Committee

<p>The government urgently needs to launch its consultation on the Future Homes Standard to ensure new buildings are resilient to climate change, according to the Climate Change Committee.</p> <p><span>As part of its latest annual <a href="http://www.theccc.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/PR23-Cover-Image-706x988.png"></a><a href="http://www.theccc.org.uk/publication/2023-progress-report-to-parliament/?pk_campaign=newsletter_6244#recommendations-to-government">Progress Report t</a>o parliament, which warned that the UK had lost its global leadership position on climate matters, the CCC noted the recent uplift to Building Regulations Part L which “ensures that new homes produce lower CO2 emissions compared to those built to previous standards”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>But stating the urgency of “significant new policies and programmes” to aid the delivery of low carbon heat and energy efficiency, the organisation said that “major upcoming rule changes” including the Future Homes Standard (FHS), were “critical steps to net zero and must not be delayed”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>The CCC said in its report that clear transitional arrangements for the FHS should be defined “which will require any buildings which have not meaningfully commenced on site within a year of the implementation date to meet the new standards”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>It also said the government needed to ensure that homes created through a change of use had a requirement for low carbon heating and mitigation of overheating.</span></p><p></p> <p>The CCC wrote in its report …
