Industry reaction to Spring Statement

<p><span>The Home Builders Federation has said it will continue to work with the government on applying new technologies to boost the energy efficiency of new homes, following the chancellor Philip Hammond's announcement of a Future Homes Standard in his Spring Statement.</span></p><p><span>HBF said: “Developers have demonstrated a clear commitment to this agenda and new homes are already considerably more energy efficient than older ones. New technologies are increasingly being incorporated that drive down emissions and we are committed to continuing to work with government on this.”</span></p><p><span>It added: “The ongoing costs and comfort of home owners is an absolute priority for home builders and it must be ensured that alternative heat sources are suitably attractive, available and efficient before withdrawing existing options.”</span></p><p><span>Simon Gooderham, joint managing partner of professional services firm Cheffins, indicated his support for the measure, which from 2025 will ensure that all new build homes feature low carbon heating and “world leading levels” of energy efficiency, according to the government. </span></p><p><span>Gooderham said: “Moves to help developers futureproof new build homes to meet low carbon heating and high standards of energy efficiency are essential to help purchasers to keep their money in the bank and not with the energy suppliers, whilst …
