HBF this week hosted its Women into Home Building celebratory event, alongside its programme partners Women into Construction (WiC) and nine home building partners - Barratt Developments, Bellway Homes, Cala Group Limited, Hill Group , Keepmoat, Persimmon Homes, Redrow, St. Modwen Homes and Vistry Group.
Since the programme launched in 2023, it has enabled 47 women to gain invaluable knowledge and experience of site management roles. HBF says that only 4% of existing site managers are women, so the programme is actively addressing the gender imbalance and paving the way for positive change by encouraging more women to join the home building industry.
Speakers at the event included Jacqui Wordsworth, business development director at WiC; Andy Neilson, senior manager at Openreach and Victoria Anthony, group HR director at and chair of the programme steering group. Anthony spoke on the importance of collaborative working with employers if the industry is to close the skills gap and create more diverse roles on site.
