ilke announces mainstream zero carbon home

<p>Modular housing company ilke Homes has unveiled its “mainstream” zero carbon home which it says will save consumers £1,000 a year with the promise of “zero bills”.</p> <p><span>This was possible, ilke said, through advances in manufacturing, materials and renewable energy. And, having trialled zero carbon homes for five councils and housing associations, it said it was now ready to roll out its mainstream model - </span>ilke ZERO – and deliver more than 1,000 of these homes a year.<span></span></p> <p><span>The company explained that ilke ZERO’s zero carbon specification was thanks to “highly insulated” walls, floors and walls, “incredibly airtight” windows and doors, LED lighting which it said uses less than a quarter of the energy of a halogen bulb, and renewable energy – air source heat pumps and solar panels.</span></p> <p>It added that its factory manufactured homes<b> “</b>create less waste and are more thermally efficient because many of the components come pre-assembled or are cut and manufactured using robots”.</p> <p>ilke also claimed that the “small cost premium” of zero carbon homes would be eliminated by 2030.
