Housing secretary approves Vauxhall Cross Island

<p><span>The housing secretary Robert Jenrick has approved two mixed use towers in Vauxhall, London, reportedly set to create 2,000 jobs.</span><span></span></p> <p><span>Great Marlborough Estates’ Vauxhall Cross Island will consist of 52-storey and 42-storey towers – some of the tallest in the city and linked by a ten-storey podium, the developer said. The scheme will see a blend of new homes, offices, retail space and a new hotel complemented by a landscaped public realm.</span></p> <p><span>The North Tower will comprise 257 homes, from penthouses to three-bedroom apartments, with access to private winter gardens, communal lounges and a children’s play area. The South Tower will feature the 618-room hotel.</span></p> <p><span>Vauxhall Cross Island, which, according to the developer is set to generate 2,000 jobs, was first approved by the London Borough of Lambeth last year after “extensive community consultation”.</span></p> <p><span>Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the scheme will bring “safer pedestrian access” between Vauxhall station and the bus interchange, replacing the current gyratory with a new bus station. </span></p> <p><span>Great Marlborough Estates is a RIBA-award winning London developer with projects including the recreation of Josh Nash’s Regent’s Crescent and modern mews houses at West Village, Notting Hill.</span></p>
