Housing minister resigns

<p>Housing minister Stuart Andrew has resigned today joining a growing band of ministers leaving the government following the lead of chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid yesterday.</p> <p>The resignations come in reaction to the way No 10 has handled the fall out to former housing minister and former deputy chief whip Chris Pincher’s resignation last week.</p> <p>In a letter to prime minister Boris Johnson, Andrew said: “Loyalty and unity are traits that I have always endeavoured to provide for our great party. However, I fear I have let these override my judgement recently. There comes a time when you have to look at your own personal integrity and that time is now.”</p> <p>He added that the party and country deserve better and that he could not tolerate members having to “defend the indefensible”.</p> <p>In a Tweet he added that: “It is with great sadness that I am resigning as housing minister.” The MP for Pudsey, Horsforth and Aireborough was only in post less than six months, replacing Pincher.</p>
