Housing minister Rachel Maclean sacked

Housing minister Rachel Maclean has been sacked from her role as part of the prime minister Rushi Sunak’s cabinet reshuffle.

The Redditch MP, who was appointed housing minister in February, said on X (formerly Twitter), that she had been asked to leave her role and expressed her disappointment. She stated that she had been “looking forward to introducing the Renters Reform Bill to Committee tomorrow and later the Leasehold and Freehold Bill”.

She added it had “been a privilege to hold the position and I wish my successor well”.

Maclean spoke at Housebuilder’s Housing Market Intelligence conference last month, stating that she was bold enough to tell local authorities that they were failing their residents by not delivering on local plans.

The reshuffle is currently ongoing.
