The deadline is looming for the Housing Design Awards, created by government in 1948, which this year will follow the levelling up agenda by swapping Westminster for the regions.
The traditional single awards presentation will become a number of site visit events around the country. These will be located next to winning schemes so the industry can access and experience what the judges thought worthy of commendation. It is hoped they will also help with any marketing.
The awards send a cross-disciplinary panel of 20 judges from key industry stakeholders, including DLUCH, Homes England, HBF, GLA, RIBA, RTPI and NHBC, to visit typically 50 schemes shortlisted from about 150 entries each year.
Awards are given each year for schemes with planning approval but not occupied (Project) and those which are occupied and at least 25% built out (Completed). There are several award categories promoted by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities – for PRS, MMC and for the scheme which complements existing development, the Good Neighbour Award, an award presented each year by the housing and planning minister. The minister also presents the Winner of Winners.
