Housebuilders sign gov's building safety pledge

<p><span><br/></span></p><p>Bellway, Vistry and Countryside are the latest housebuilders to sign up to a government building safety pledge, which includes a commitment from housebuilders to address remediation on buildings of above 11m that they have developed stretching back 30 years.</p><p>The pledge, which follows almost three months of discussions between industry and government on finding a resolution to the fire safety crisis, also involves signatories agreeing to withdraw buildings they have developed since 1992 from the government’s Building Safety Fund.</p><p>These commitments that ministers have proposed to the industry follow the HBF’s <a href="https://www.house-builder.co.uk/news/housebuilders-set-out-plan-cladding-costs">proposals to government</a> on February 25, in which the federation pledged that remediation on buildings that its members had constructed would go back to developments since 2000. </p><p>Under the government’s pledge, housebuilders must take responsibility for carrying out or funding self-remediation works to address fire safety issues on buildings they have developed.</p><p>As of the morning of April 7, ten housebuilders had agreed to the pledge. Bellway said today (April 7) that committing to the stipulations would cost it an estimated £300 million in addition to the £186.8 million it had set aside since 2017 to address fire safety remediation. </p><p>It added that its estimate assumed shouldering the full costs of …
