House price increase drops to lowest point in decade

Research by property website Rightmove has revealed that the annual rate of house price inflation has fallen to its lowest point for 10 years. The website said prices were up just 4.9% over the past year, compared to a peak of 18% recorded in July 2004. Figures from the Land Registry also show that 159,116 people bought a new home between January and March this year, almost 85,000 fewer than in the same period last year. Sales have not fallen below 200,000 for three years. The average price of a home is now £198,147, up 0.3% in May. (Telegraph)
