Homes England progresses MMC study

<p>Homes England has finalised the research themes for its six-year study into modern methods of construction (MMC).</p> <p><span>Following its announcement last spring on the extensive study, the government agency has listed 16 </span><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-impact-of-mmc-use-on-home-building-delivery-phases/monitoring-and-measuring-research-study-impact-of-mmc-on-the-delivery-of-homes">themes</a><span> the research project will explore. These include cost and pace of build, labour productivity, planning issues, safety and delivery performance, energy efficiency, social value and the wellbeing of residents.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>Homes England also said that its research and development partners on the project, Atkins and Faithful + Gould, had completed significant work to shape the study’s data and collection methodology and begin data collection.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>In the next stage of the project, data will be collected across eight of Homes England’s sites featuring MMC. During the six-year process, consultants Atkins and Faithful + Gould will work with the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and University College London to collect and monitor data from developers. </span></p><p><span>The companies will produce yearly updates on the research findings, with a final report due to be published at the end of the build programme.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>Last May, Homes England commissioned its research study into MMC “to drive innovation in the construction industry”.</span></p><p></p> <p><span>The project will follow the construction of around 1,800 homes across the country, …
