Homes England has created its largest development site in Northern England.
The government’s housing and regeneration agency has completed the acquisition of 34 hectares of land within the residential allocation known as the South East Warrington Urban Extension (SEWUE).
It now has control of the development of the allocation in Warrington Borough Council’s local plan, with this recent purchase taking its total landholding within the SEWUE to around 250 hectares.
According to Homes England, the newly acquired 34 hectares of land near Stretton is key to the scheme’s success, allowing the development of essential access infrastructure, unlocking the whole allocation’s delivery.
The organisation also said that the scale of the scheme, set to feature up to 4,200 new homes, would contribute substantially to meeting Warrington’s housing needs and those of the North West region.
The development, which will include 30% affordable housing, will also comprise community facilities including schools, recreational spaces, local centres with health facilities and green spaces.
