Homes England chooses Barratt for Macclesfield school site

<p><span>Homes England has picked Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West to develop 300 homes at the former King’s School campus at Fence Avenue, Macclesfield. </span><span></span></p> <p><span><span>The development, which gained full planning permission on July 29, comprises a mix of open market and affordable homes. Barratt and David Wilson Homes North West will deliver some of the affordable homes in partnership with Torus, one of Homes England’s housing association strategic partners. Torus will also convert the onsite school building, Fence House, into market sale apartments. </span></span><span></span></p> <p><span><span>Homes England said a “high quality design approach” had been taken to the scheme, reflecting the character of the surrounding area. This follows the agency's introduction of a design quality assessment within its land disposals to ensure schemes adhere to Building for Life 12 criteria. </span></span><span></span></p> <p><span><span>Homes England acquired the Fence Avenue campus from King’s School in August 2018, in a deal in which the site was leased back to the school for two years, allowing it to access upfront investment and build its new campus without any interruption to education. </span></span><span></span></p> <p><span><span>The school’s new campus is scheduled to open for the 2020/21 academic year, at which point construction of the homes will begin. …
