Homes England appoints new chair

<p><span>Homes England has chosen Peter Freeman as its new chair.</span></p> <p><span>Housing secretary Robert Jenrick has announced the appointment which will see Freeman, “one of the most distinguished figures in the industry” who is known for his work in regenerating Kings Cross, drive the government body’s delivery of homes and infrastructure to support economic recovery, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) said. </span></p> <p><span>MHCLG added that Freeman had amassed much experience in reviving local areas, “creating imaginative economic centres and places people want to visit and live”. </span></p> <p><span>He will head Homes England’s plans to support a more diverse and efficient housebuilding industry, working with developers of all sizes and championing innovative build methods including modern methods of construction, Jenrick said.</span></p> <p><span>Freeman will join Homes England subject to a pre-appointment scrutiny committee hearing with the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee this month. If he is successful, he will serve a three-year term. </span></p> <p><span>Previous chair Sir Edward Lister stepped down from Homes England in August last year after becoming the prime minister’s chief strategic adviser. </span><span>Simon Dudley is currently interim chair.</span><span></span></p> <p><span>Jenrick said: “As the visionary behind the revival of Kings Cross, Peter has a track …
