HBF opens SME survey for State of Play report

<p><span>The Home Builders Federation has launched its 2023 SME Housebuilder Survey, in partnership with Close Brothers Property Finance and Travis Perkins, calling upon smaller builders to share their experiences of the challenges they face within housebuilding.</span><span></span></p> <p><span>The <a href="http://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SMEREPORT2023">survey, open for responses until close of business on August 29</a>, is in its fourth year. It will inform HBF’s next SME <i>State of Play</i> report, which explores opportunities and challenges for small and medium housebuilders.</span><span></span></p> <p><span><a href="http://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/SMEREPORT2023">HBF’s survey</a> covers topics including the government’s approach to housebuilding, planning, sustainability, development finance and skills and training. </span><span></span></p> <p><span>Last year’s <i></i><a href="http://www.hbf.co.uk/news/planning-delays-and-rising-costs-crippling-the-uks-sme-housebuilders">State of Play report</a> revealed that 92% of SME respondents were unhappy with the government’s current approach to housing, with 93% finding that securing and processing a permission to the point where construction work can start was a major barrier to growth.</span><span></span></p> <p><span>And more than two thirds of survey participants said they were impacted by the nutrient neutrality issue which is restricting development in more than a quarter of England’s local authority areas.</span><span></span></p> <p><span>The latest survey follows HBF’s <a href="http://www.house-builder.co.uk/news/smes-urge-action-through-number-10-letter">“Save our SMEs” Campaign in July</a>, in which it delivered a letter to 10 Downing Street signed by 166 SME housebuilders who urged for …
