Grey areas in Energy Related Products, warns Airflow

The ventilation industry needs to remember the caveat of self-regulation under the forthcoming ErP (Energy Related Products) and EuP (Energy Using Products) Directives, warns Bob Sharples, industrial fan product manager at Airflow Developments (pictured).<br> <br> LOT 11 of the ErP, which covers fans driven by electric motors with an input power ranging from 125w to 500Kw, sets out minimum standards for industrial fans, with two increasing levels of efficiency set to be rolled out between January 2013 and January 2015. Manufacturers may be asked to prove their products’ compliance. This has led to concerns over whether manufacturers across Europe will all adhere to the same stringent guidelines. <br> <br> Furthermore, LOT 11 may cover fan efficiency, but manufacturers also need to ensure that they adhere to the regulation governing three phase fan motors and the EU 640/2009 EuPregulation. There are three key dates of minimum motor efficiency implementation: June 16 2013; January 1st 2015 and January 2017.<br> <br> This is by far the biggest overhaul the industry has ever seen and has a cost and time implication on all fans currently on the market to be tested and, if necessary, redeveloped to meet standards, Sharples says.<br> <br> www.airflow.co.uk or enter …
