<b><b>Laing puzzler</b></b><br> Anyone who visits sites such as Langley Park in Beckenham, Kent, may wonder why Laing Homes is up for sale at all, when its strategy over the past five years appears to have put it in pole position to clean up in the market.<p></p><p>But the odd sale just got odder still. For newspaper City pages report that buyers have been piling into Laing shares lately on the assumption that after housing is sold off, what remains of Laing - the PPP bit with valuable public sector contracts - is also fairly likely to be taken over.</p><p>If that is the case, why not sell off the PPP bit first - to give the Laing team the extra firepower they clearly need to keep the magic rolling along at Laing Homes?</p><p><b><b>Liar&’s land plan</b></b><br>Is Jeffrey Archer ready to join the ranks of housebuilders on completion of his current run at Her Majesty&’s?
