<b></b>Housebuilders have told MPs of the need for government to act against local authorities who may use the Planning Green Paper as an excuse to delay plan preparation. <br>Andrew Whitaker, national planning advisor of the House Builders Federation, has told a select committee inquiry into the Green Paper&’s proposals that the proposed tariff system would be unacceptable to the industry. Whitaker condemned the planning system for its failure to meet housing need.<p></p><p>&“We were delighted to be given the opportunity to appear before the committee,&” said Whitaker. &“The committee&’s deliberations are extremely important and we hope that the important points we made in both written and oral evidence will be carried through as recommendations in the final report to government.&”</p><p>Meanwhile the government is to hold an all party select committee hearing this summer into the issue of affordable housing. The committee is expected to examine all aspects of the growing problem of providing housing for key workers. </p><p>It will look at defining the term affordable and finding out how big the demand is for these homes and where that demand is most acute.
