Government "not delivering"on housing crisis

The government is failing to sufficiently tackle the housing crisis, leading housing groups have warned.<br> <br> The National Housing Federation (NHF), Shelter and The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) state in their second Housing Report that the government is not delivering on five out of ten key housing indicators – affordability of the private rented sector, help with housing costs, homelessness, housing supply and overcrowding.<br> <br> These indicators are rated "red" as part of a traffic light system, an approach used in the previous report of October 2011 to indicate government's progress with each issue. Red denotes a worsening situation.<br> <br> The latest report urges government to deliver on its promises, particularly to "get Britain building" to provide homes as well as generate jobs and economic growth.<br> <br> The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) also launched new research in May – The way we live now – revealing that consumers need more storage space in their homes, with some home owners resorting to "surprisingly inventive" ways of storing basic items, such as using the boot of a car.<br> <br> "The report looks at new and existing homes," noted John Slaughter, HBF's director of external affairs.
