Community involvement in development proposals has become “crucial”, says the government, following the launch of its new vision for planning. Planning Policy Statement 1 (PPS1), launched on February 24, sets out the way the government wants to see planning operate. The statement, which replaces PPG1, puts community involvement and sustainable building to the fore. “We must make the planning system accessible for everyone,” said housing minister Keith Hill. “For too long planning has been a Cinderella. Now it is time to go to the ball.” PPS1 calls for people to be informed about proposals in good time and enables communities to put forward ideas, while allowing full consultation and feedback.
