Government to implement Hackitt recommendations

<p><span>The government has announced a programme of reform which will implement Dame Judith Hackitt’s recommendations following the Grenfell fire tragedy. </span></p> <p><span>Under the <i>Building a safer future</i> plan, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government said it would action all recommendations within Dame Judith Hackitt’s review of Building Regulations and fire safety and “create a more effective regulatory and accountability framework to provide greater oversight of the industry”. </span></p> <p><span>This would help engender culture change and “a more responsible building industry, from design through to construction and management”. </span></p> <p><span>MHCLG will introduce clearer standards and guidance, including setting up a new Standards Committee which will advise on construction product and system standards and regulations.</span></p> <p><span>It also said its framework would empower residents with more effective routes for engagement and redress, placing them “at the heart of the new system of building safety”. </span></p> <p><span>MHCLG will establish the Joint Regulators’ Group to test elements of a new regulatory system before any new legislation is proposed. The group will consist of key regulators and partners, including The National Fire Chiefs Council, the Health and Safety Executive and the Local Government Association which includes the fire and rescue authorities.</span></p> <p><span>These bodies will …
