Government announces Thames Gateway UDC team

Keith Hill, minister for housing and for the Thames Gateway, has today announced the team that will be responsible for driving forward the regeneration of the area. The board of the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (UDC) includes chairman Lorraine Baldry and deputy chair John Biggs. The London UDC will be responsible for overseeing the revitalisation of derelict land in the Lower Lea Valley and Barking - Havering – Riverside – a key aspect of the Communities Plan. “The London UDC is ready to start delivering its ambitious plan to help revitalise East London,” said Hill. “Working in partnership with local authorities and the mayor, the UDC will have a major role to play in providing much needed affordable homes and jobs in the capital, as well as an attractive environment, where people will want to live and work." Chairman Lorraine Baldry commented: "We do not underestimate the challenges we face. As a Board we are committed to working closely with other agencies in the area to deliver our shared agenda - creating sustainable communities and securing East London's future as an area of the capital where people aspire to live, work and enjoy."
