Government announces first Build to Rent projects

The government has revealed the first 45 schemes to be brought forward under its £1 billion Build to Rent Fund.<br> <br> The fund, which was increased from £200 million to £1 billion in the Budget following an "overwhelming" number of bids, was established last year to help developers invest in homes purposely built for private rent with as little risk as possible.<br> <br> The selected projects will now pass to a competitive clarification and due diligence process through the Homes and Communities Agency, for a share of £700 million.<br> <br> Housing minister Mark Prisk said that under the Build to Rent Fund, up to 10,000 new homes would be underway by 2015. He commented: "These new projects will help us map this almost uncharted market, bringing in new blood to improve rental quality and choice, and building the new homes that this country wants and needs."<br> <br> Companies whose projects are being taken forward include Bovis Homes, Crest Nicholson, Inland Homes, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey.
