Government and industry tackle the housing myths

Both the government and the Home Builders Federation have issued fact sheets on housing in an attempt to counter the swathe of anti development information being issued by opponents of the National Planning Policy Framework.<br> <br> <br> The Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG) issued a document entitled National Planning Policy Framework: Myth-Buster which counters 12 myths including "This is a developer’s charter", "The presumption in favour of sustainable development will mean that every application has to be accepted" and "The green belt will be concreted over". The document is available on the DCLG website, www.communities.gov.uk.<br> <br> <br> HBF, meanwhile, has produced its own fact sheet on housing to counter the arguments of the National Trust and CPRE which oppose the draft National Planning Policy Framework.<br> <br> <br> The HBF sheet includes 14 key facts about UK housing including:<br> <br> <br> Last year saw 103,000 homes built in England, the fewest since 1923 Official Figures show that at least 230,000 new homes a year are needed Last year there were 200,000 Frst time buyers compared to 600,000 ten years ago. <br>
