Glyn Barker becomes Berkeley chairman

<p><span class="k"><span>Berkeley Group has appointed Glyn Barker as its non-executive chairman for up to two years as the board searches for a permanent replacement following the death of founder and chairman Tony Pidgley.</span></span></p> <p><span>Barker became the group’s interim chairman on June 26 after Pidgley’s sudden passing. He takes the non-executive chairman post immediately, stepping down as chairman of the Remuneration Committee and as a member of the Audit Committee.</span></p> <p><span>Barker remains a member of the Remuneration Committee, while becoming chairman of the Nomination Committee although he will not chair this when the next chairman is being considered.</span></p> <p><span>The business announced other immediate changes, with Diana Brightmore-Armour becoming senior independent director, succeeding Glyn Barker. She will become a member of the Audit Committee.</span></p> <p><span>Peter Vernon, currently a member of the Remuneration Committee, will become its chairman. Meanwhile, Sir John Armitt joins the Nomination Committee.</span></p><p><span>Tony Pidgley formed Berkeley in 1976 which evolved into a FTSE 100 company, delivering thousands of homes each year.</span><span> Housebuilders, ministers and other key figures have paid tribute to the well-known Pidgley, who began his construction career at just 15.</span><br/></p>
