Keith Lovelock, former chairman and ceo of retirement housebuilder McCarthy Stone, has died at the age of 83.
McStone said it was saddened to announce the passing of Lovelock who, during the 2000s, shared both chairman and chief executive responsibilities with John McCarthy until McCarthy left the company in 2004. Lovelock then retired in 2006.
Lovelock amassed more than 40 years’ experience within the construction industry. He had roles at Rush & Tompkins, Wimpey and Federated Homes before joining McStone in 1986 as chairman of the international division – “an exciting time” for the business, McStone said, as it built retirement schemes in France and Spain.
He joined McStone’s plc board in 1989, progressing to ceo of the group in 1993. Alongside McCarthy, Lovelock guided the business following the early 1990s recession then led it through a period of significant growth.
The retirement housebuilder said: “McCarthy Stone offers its condolences to Mr Lovelock’s family and remember him fondly for his vital role in the success of the company from 1986.”
