July 30, 2025

Paul Johnson, the former director of the Institute of Fiscal Studies, is to speak at this year’s Housing Market Intelligence Conference in London on October 8th.

Johnson, who left the IFS this month after 14 years, has been a prominent commentator on all aspects of finance, tax, economics and public policy in his role heading up the leading independent research and analysis organisation in the country.

He is expected to give HMI delegates his views on government policy, tax and spending and the challenges ahead for the government as well as the labour market, demographics and living standards.

Johnson was also a member of the UK Climate Change Committee for ten years so is well placed to discuss the economics of climate change and the path to net zero.

He will join a strong line up of speakers including Matthew Spry, senior director at planning consultant Lichfields, David Smith, economics editor of The Sunday Times and Gráinne Gilmore, director of research & insights at Cluttons.

There will also be two expert panels discussing “How can the industry deliver the government’s 1.5 million new homes target?” and “The opportunities and challenges of meeting today’s sustainability and environmental demands”.
