Energy efficient homes could halve bills

Customers could halve their bills if they move into new homes built to current regulations, according to the NHBC Foundation and Zero Carbon Hub.<br> <br> The two organisations calculated the potential annual savings on gas and electricity that could be achieved from living in different types of energy efficient housing, built to 2010 standards and compared with "upgraded" Victorian homes.<br> <br> A four-bedroom detached new home could be 55% cheaper to run, meaning a saving of £1,312. A one-bedroom ground floor flat could be 47% cheaper, generating a £426 saving. Other housing types analysed were:<br> <br> A three-bedroom end terrace – potentially 52% cheaper to run, saving £840 A three-bedroom mid terrace – potentially 46% cheaper – a £642 saving <br> Meanwhile, homes built from 2016 could bring annual savings of around £1,875 – a 79% saving.<br> <br> Neil Jefferson, NHBC Foundation's director and Zero Carbon Hub's chief executive, said: "The cost data we have produced gives an indication of the kind of monetary savings that could be made in the long term.
