Diverse workforce key to combating housing crisis – HBF report

<p><span>HBF is calling for the “brightest and best” to join the industry in order to meet the country’s housing challenge, launching a report in parliament which highlights the diverse workforce needed to build 300,000 homes each year. It also stated that more than 49,000 new recruits were necessary to increase housebuilding to meet the government’s target.</span></p> <p><span>The report, </span><i>Building a Future: Opportunities in Home Building</i><span>, profiles individuals across a range of industry roles to demonstrate the breadth of professions on offer, HBF said. </span></p><p><span>It explained that if construction work was not to someone’s taste, other roles - for example those in finance, design, planning and sales – were just as crucial to homebuilding. "There are opportunities for people of all backgrounds and tastes to develop a rewarding career”.</span></p> <p><span>Announcing the report, HBF highlighted the roles of sustainability co-ordinator, building visualiser and site manager. For environmentalists, the first post would be ideal, it said. “Driving improvement of sustainability performance throughout the homebuilding industry, you’ll implement projects to reduce waste, energy and carbon emissions, ensuring the sector helps to meet the government’s net zero target.”</span></p> <p><span>For those with “an eye for design”, being a building visualiser would mean giving people "a first …
