Detached homes are most popular

A survey has shown that the standard detached house has overtaken the bungalow as the country’s most popular property. Almost 60% questioned in a poll by MORI for the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment opted for the detached house with just over 20% going with the bungalow. The survey, What Home buyers Want, challenges the wisdom of building high-density housing on brown field land. Richard Simmons, CABE’s chief executive, said: “We have a long history of suburban living in England. The challenge for us is how we reconcile this consumer preference with the need to build more homes and not devour the green belt.”
