Demand for new homes surges – HBF/Zoopla

<p><span>Demand for new build homes increased 66% during the six weeks following the reopening of the property market, according to new data from Zoopla. These figures come as the Home Builders Federation releases its own survey ahead of New Homes Week Unlocked, taking place from July 20-27.</span></p> <p><span>The research from property website Zoopla also revealed that demand for new homes is now in line with levels seen in February, with first time buyer interest seeing an 87% resurgence and exceeding pre-lockdown levels after an initial 68% slump during the first two weeks of lockdown.</span></p> <p><span>And HBF’s survey indicates changing attitudes to homes since lockdown was imposed. The poll showed that 55% of respondents now value their home space “more than ever”.</span></p> <p><span>Meanwhile, 40% said they would now want space for a home office if they were searching for a new home. 18% wish to change the style of their home, with 16% having become more interested in updating their property since being in lockdown.</span></p> <p><span>HBF added that 22% of its respondents aged 25-34 found their interest in interior design had increased during lockdown, compared to only 12% of those aged 45-54.</span></p> <p><span>Stewart Baseley, HBF’s executive chairman, said: “Lockdown has been …
