Councils inconsistent with PPG3

Jan. 1, 2002
A survey of local government authorities has uncovered an inconsistent approach to the application of revised PPG3 standards over the past year. The GL Hearn Planning Housing Survey 2001, which had a 75% response rate among local authorities in England, found that &“the overwhelming majority of planning authorities are not following the (PPG3) guidance on parking levels&”, with 68% providing too much parking when dealing with two to four bedroomed dwellings. But progress on PPG3 density and brownfield targets has been more positive. Three quarters of authorities are planning for densities in the range recommended by the revised guidance in emerging development plans, and 58% of respondents expected to achieve the government&’s 60% brownfield land target against 54% in 2000.
For further information on the survey contact

Laura Adkins at GL Hearn on 020 7450 5135

or e-mail: laura_adkins@glhearn.com
