Condition report u-turn

<p>The goverment has denied that home information packs (HIPs) may be consigned to the dustbin after housing minister Yvette Cooper dropped the compulsory inclusion of its core function, the home condition report (HCR).</p> <p>Linden chief executive Philip Davies labelled the whole HIP project a “fiasco”which should be thrown on the “scrapheap.”Tory shadow housing minister Michael Gove said: “The government should abandon the whole scheme and consult afresh, rather than move ahead with a vanity project to save ministers‘ faces.”</p> <p>Cooper said concerns over the number of home inspectors that would be available to prepare the HCRs and the need for further testing were behind her decision to make the reports voluntary.</p>
