A recent skills survey of Chartered Institute of Building members found that 65% believe the workforce is not adequately skilled, and 95% expect a skills shortage beyond 2005. The CIOB’s survey found that 79% of members had problems recruiting during 2004/05, with 42% reporting "serious difficulties" recruiting for "crafts and trades." The construction industry’s poor image and recruitment policies were cited as the major causes of the problem.
