<p><span>The London mayor’s approach to housing is “unrealistic”, according to the Home Builders Federation, which has expressed “grave reservations” over the London Plan’s ability to deliver 66,000 homes each year up to 2029, and the potential opportunities missed for sizeable additional investment in the capital.</span><br/></p> <p><span>HBF is urging the mayor to withdraw his new Draft London Plan to avoid a potential “grievous shortfall” in London housing. It explains that the new London Plan does not properly identify the land on which the new homes should be built, instead relying on “an overly theoretical approach to future housing land supply” which does not provide enough certainty that the required land will come forward in the right quantity and in enough time.</span></p> <p><span>If realistic housing planning policies are not solidified, HBF warns that the capital will lose out on a significant economic boost and suffer social implications.</span></p> <p><span>A revised London Plan, HBF states, must consider how London’s “considerable housing needs” can be met through new or expanded settlements within the wider south east of England. “Meeting future projected housing needs over the next decade depends on some 25,000 homes a year being built on land which has not yet been identified,” it …
