Celcon splashes out &£81m on Thermalite

<b></b>H+H Celcon has been confirmed as the buyer of Thermalite, Marley&amp;’s block division, for an estimated &amp;£81 million, subject to approval by the UK competition authorities. <br>The combined operation will hold 21% of the block market. <p></p><p>Hanson, meanwhile, is to combine its European quarry products and brick divisions to form Hanson Building Materials Europe. The firm is reducing overheads and looking to create a more integrated building materials business.</p><p>Also in the brick sector, Ambion and Chelwood are merging their operations to better compete with the larger operations such as Hanson. Ambions&amp;’s executive chairman Chris Attrill will become ceo. He said: &amp;“We will have a better balanced, more robust product offering than either business in isolation. There is little product or territory overlap.&amp;”</p><p><br> </p><p></p>
